Laurie Dameron, the environmental musician

Laurie Dameron is part of the NFBPWC Colorado affiliate.  She is a musician and environmental activist who has been playing the guitar for over 50 years.  When she is not busy with her environmental work, Laurie plays at various venues such as festivals, restaurants, country clubs, etc.

Laurie believes that art and culture are key in promoting the environment.  In fact, she would love to add A in the acronym for STEM to include that artistic element.  In fact, she believes that being a musician singing about the environment is like the infamous Starfish story.  If she can touch or inspire at least one person with her art, then it’s worth it.

At the same time, she has also been inspired by various people in her life both famous and locally that have helped shaped the work that does today. They include famous activists such as Jane Fonda and Greta Thunberg. Locally where she lives in Colorado, there is Joan Gregorson, Steele Eli “Earthly Man” and Bonnie Sundance. All have done important work in the environment ranging from teaching people to live off the grid to self-sustaining, environmentally friendly farming.

Where Laurie’s story with BPW came into play was back in 2007. She was looking for a way to get her music out there on a professional level as well as to provide music for many BPW events. One project that she is most proud of while being in BPW has been her multi-media power point presentation entitled “Spaceship Earth: What Can I Do?”.

It can be found here: https://youtu.be/louhuW1bpo4?si=4--mHfFk5cJ0ed5p. She has also been involved with BPW Europe and the International Environmental Committee.

For her work, Laurie would like to get more support in what she does and to get it out there. She has a Green News newsletter that’s available for a free subscription via her website as well as articles in the NFBPWC magazine about various environmental issues. She wants to connect with more people who care and are passionate about environmental issues like she is.

At the time of this writing, Laurie had an upcoming event as part of a duo called Laurie and Lorrie at the Roots Music Project in Boulder Colorado. She has also been working on a couple of albums. One that features a song that

she wrote for the 50th anniversary of Earth Day in 2020 and another once that’s jazz inspired.
